Circle Time with Mrs. Farrell

Circle Time with Mrs. Farrell

Every English day we split up into small groups Senior Kindergarten and
Junior Kindergarten students to learn and explore. While Mrs. Sonnenburg
takes half the students outside the other half of the students stay inside
and do a fun learning circle! We focus on learning many things and I try to
incorporate a fun way for the students to learn through games, songs, stories
and activities. We hope to do this in the near future on French days once we
get the students more comfortable with the second language.

This month the Junior Kindergartens have been focusing on recognizing their
first names, colours and capital letters. We have learnt a very loved song
called busy busy bumble bee which many students tell me they sing at home,
we have played a fun game called crocodile, crocodile down by the
lake and we have also played a game on a large shower curtain that
challenges the students to recognize letters at a quick speed!

This month the Senior Kindergartens have been focusing on recognizing
all the letters in their first name as well as we began to focus on their last
names. They have played the crocodile game which focused on capital
and lowercase letters and we recently began focusing on some simple
sight words. The senior kindergarten students especially love the challenge
on the shower curtain game and focused on capital/lowercase letters as
well as simple sight words.

At the end of each circle we read a story which this month included:

-Franklin Goes to School
-Pocket Full of Kisses
-The Very Hungry Caterpillar
-Alphabet Mystery
-Llama Llama Misses Mama

And as always, at the very end of circle the students get to pull “the popper”
which is a fun way to end as each student gets a chuckle out of the sound it
makes!
