100 master

We have put out 100 charts. If students choose to fill in all the numbers on a blank chart, we call them a “100s Master!” They’ve been working so hard and we are very proud of their efforts.  Once completed, they get to wear a “100s master” crown!

Nests, nests, nests

We’ve been looking at a variety of nests that we have in the classroom.

After reading a book and having a discussion about what a nest is, and who builds a nest, we went outdoors in search of real nests!
We found a wasp’s nest!
We found an ant’s nest.
We found a squirrel’s nest ( we’ll...maybe!!)
And of course, lots of caterpillar nests!

Young Artists

We have been reading a variety of books about different famous artists.

We have been working to make some masterpieces based on those created by artists such as Andy Warhol,
Georgia O’Keefe,
Edgar Degas,

Leonardo da Vinci,and
Vincent Van Gogh

Altogether, our artwork makes an amazing display as you enter the school, what talented students we have!

Happy Birthday

Our students have been enjoying our birthday centre. They are making invitations, using the phone book we made to “phone” friends, making lists, setting the table, decorating our cake, consulting the calendar, etc.

So much fun!

Helping the birds

We’ve read a variety of books about nests and watched some videos of a mother robin building a nest. Each student was given a length of yarn to take to the forest and place it in an area where a bird might be enticed to pick it up and include it in her nest.

P

We found a tent caterpillar nest to investigate!

Chick inquiry

We had two little chicks that the kids could look at. We visited them, and drew them. Hopefully your child brought home a hand drawn picture.

Horses come to visit!

It was quite a morning! Some horses got loose on Stonecrest road. They finally ended up in the school yard. One seemed very happy to graze on the fresh grass on top of our hill. The farmer couldn’t get coax it in, so had to go and get another horse so that the lost horse would have a friend to follow. It worked, but by this time, the buses had arrived. The students were very excited. Eventually, the two horses were loaded, and the kids got off their buses!

Ahhhh, the excitement a country school provides! I thought I’d share in case your child comes home and says they saw a horse and school today, and you doubted them!

Peep, peep, peep!!

Yea, we have babies! (Finally!) This morning, one little chick hatched. Some students who are in the before school program got to watch.

He seems healthy and lively, so after he dried off a bit, everyone got a chance to see him, see his “house”:for the past 3 weeks and draw a picture of him.
