Preparing for Winter

During our weekly nature time, we have been talking about how both people and creatures prepare for the winter season.  We begin by asking the students how they and their family prepare for winter.  Then, we read a book called "Bear has a Story to Tell"

Poor bear, he can't tell his story as all his friends are either flying south or preparing for hibernation, or gathering food.  This leads to a discussion of what animals do in the winter.  We have pictures of a number of different animals and we talk about what they do in the winter.

Then, we go outdoors and look for some evidence of what animals might be doing.  We found a few insects who found cozy spots under rocks.

We found holes in the tree and guessed who might make that their home.

We guessed who might hibernate under the mud.  We also stopped and listen for the sound of the geese as they make their way south.
