Today, we used something called the "glitter bug". It is a machine using ultra violet light that the school borrows from the Health Unit. The students apply a special white hand cream and rub it into their hands, and this represents the germs. They then look at their hands under the light, and can see all those "germs"
. Then they go and wash their hands to rid themselves of all those germs!
They re-check their hands under the light to ensure that they've scrubbed away all the germs. It is a wonderful way for the students to visually see if they are doing a good job hand washing. Some students went back to wash their hands two or three times to ensure that they had scrubbed away all the pretend germs!
