Happy Haunting

What a day we had! Halloween morning started out with our annual Stonecrest parade to show off all our costumes to the older grades.
Our reading buddies paid us a visit.
After lunch, we read the book "Room on the Broom", followed up with watching the animated movie. We put out a bunch of pumpkins and let the students cut, empty, carve them out.
Surprise...Some of you may find some pumpkins in your child's school bag (sorry😀)
After second lunch, we went to visit the office administrators, brought them some treats and shared some spooky songs.
Once back in class, we enjoyed our treats, made some special crafts or played pin the Boo on the ghost (or pin the nose on the pumpkin).

What a busy day!
We wish you all a safe and happy Halloween!
From your shopkin teachers!

Searching for a letter in Alphabet Soup! Senior Kindergarten's were asked to find a letter and tell us a word that started with the letter they found!
This was a great game for Letter Recognition!

Working Together to match their spoons!

Happy Students with their SPOON MATCH :)

Symme-tree??

This week, we took our junior kindergartens outdoors. Each child collected a favourite leaf.
We then looked at them closely and noticed the colours, the lines and veins, any marks. We talked about how each half of the leaf was just like the other half. We introduced the concept of symmetry. I then cut the leaf in half, and like a puzzle, they had to find the matching half of their leaf and put it back together.

Photo Retakes

Tuesday, November 1 is picture retake day.  If you'd like to have your child's photo taken again for any reason, please let us know ahead of time-a quick email, or note in the note tote.  (An email is preferable as not all students consistently remember to bring their note totes).

Halloween Party

For our Halloween Party on Monday, October 31, students are invited to come to school dressed in their Halloween costume (please keep face masks and accessories such as swords, wands, etc. at home due to safety issues and to ensure that nothing gets lost before the special night). We will have a small costume parade around parts of the school in the morning.  Please be sure to still send in a healthy lunch as we will not enjoy our tasty snacks and treats in our classroom until the end of the day.  I will make a "witches brew" to drink and just a reminder, the Aldis, Beaudoin, Barton (Nevya), Belisle, Durie, Gemmill and Gorman families will provide some snacks. Happy Haunting!

Wash away the germs!

Today, we used something called the "glitter bug". It is a machine using ultra violet light that the school borrows from the Health Unit. The students apply a special white hand cream and rub it into their hands, and this represents the germs. They then look at their hands under the light, and can see all those "germs"
Then they go and wash their hands to rid themselves of all those germs!
They re-check their hands under the light to ensure that they've scrubbed away all the germs.
It is a wonderful way for the students to visually see if they are doing a good job hand washing. Some students went back to wash their hands two or three times to ensure that they had scrubbed away all the pretend germs!

Baking with the green class

Today, the green class made their pumpkin muffins. Here are a few pictures from the activity.
Silly Mr. Storms came in, and announced how he had eaten all our delicious muffins, and now had a tummy ache! Thank goodness, he was just joking...but we had some worked friends for a few minutes!
They were delicious! A huge thank you to parent volunteers Kristy, who helped Monday and Ashley who assisted us today...we couldn't do it without you!
