Weather!

Weather

We have recently had the children asking some questions like, "How does snow fall from the sky?" or "How come the clouds are dark today?" So we have been talking about different kinds of weather and doing some experiments to find out some answers to these really great questions!

Our Science table, weather books and some weather sensory bottles to explore!

We brought in a jar to do a science experiment with the children to show them how clouds work! This particular experiment uses water, shaving cream to represent the clouds, and blue food coloring to represent the rain. They were amazed to see after some time, the "clouds" (shaving cream) gets full and the "rain" (food coloring) falls from the clouds.

Some Predictions from the Blue Class: "It's going to rain"-Bridget
"The blue is going to sit there until it gets full and starts to rain."-Ivy

Patiently waiting for the "clouds" to "rain"

"Wow! Look Ms. Byrne it's raining!"-JK Group

We had a few "scientists" in our class, draw and record what they saw!

Pet Store

Pet Store

The children have been interested in turning our Dramatic Play center into a Pet Store!
So far we have some stuffed animals, animal hats, toy snakes, toy aquarium and some empty cat and dog food bags in our store. We are looking for a few more things to add to our kindergarten Pet Store. If you have anything that you would like to donate we would really appreciate it! For example, pet bowls, dishes, small tiny cages or animal carriers and empty food bags.

Thank you for your help!

Valentine's Day for the Green Class

The following letter has been sent home today regarding information for Valentine's Day for the GREEN CLASS! If you have any questions, just send us an email :)

Dear Green Class Families,

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and we have talked about making Valentine's Day cards for our friends in the class to show them how much we appreciate them. After our discussion, we took a class survey, giving the children the following options:

  1. Make enough Valentine's Day cards for all 31 children in the class and then pass out each valentine on Valentine's Day.  OR......
  2. Make one special card for a classmate and hand it out on Valentine's Day.

The majority of the class chose to vote for: #1-Make enough Valentine's Day cards for all 31 children in the class. Therefore, we are asking all the children to bring in enough Valentine's Day cards for everyone in the class. Since we are a large class of 31 children please leave the *TO: part of the card BLANK!* This allows the children to pass out their Valentine's Day cards successfully! Keep in mind, we have 17 Boys and 14 Girls in the class. We have decorated Valentine's Day bags at school for all the children to have a special spot that will hold all of the lovely cards they receive.

P.S. Just a little reminder that the following families are signed up to send in the treats for the Valentine's Day Party: Gillespie, Gaffney, Heidt, McCurdy, Giguere, Mallett & Murray.

Thanks again for helping us to have so much fun at school

Madame Behnke helped us make some play dough so we could explore some tracks in the "snow"

Building Fun!

Creative Building Projects!

Recently, both the English class and the French class introduced to the kids the idea of planning before you build. We talked about different things the kids can build and create in the block center and to think of a "Plan" before they start. We have added clipboards, pencils, building plans and pictures to help the children with their planning process.

TOYS! TOYS! TOYS!

Kindergarten Toy Store!

It was time for a change in our dramatic play center! We brainstormed some ideas with both the blue class and the green class and the most popular choice by only 1 point was "Toy Store" The children were eager to get started setting up the store in our classroom.

*We brainstormed some ideas for our Toy Store with the kids and they came up with some wonderful suggestions such as price tags, a sign, money and baskets. If you have any shopping bags or small toys at home that you are willing to donate to our Toy Store please send them in with your child for example: small dolls, ponies, puzzles, etc. Thanks!

We got the cash register out, some shopping bags.....

They worked together to create a sign for the store..

Made some price tags for the toys!

Lots of smiles shopping in the Toy Store!

The Toy Store is OPEN!
