Bones
With the doctors office we have set up this week, we have had some discussions about bones. We have some skull bones that the students are investigating.
We saw some Fables
Today, an acting troupe came and presented 5 different fables to our students. The group was a local children's group aged 9-12. They had done a fabulous job presenting: The Sun and the Wind, The Tortoise and a Hare, The Wolf in Sheeps Clothing, The Fox and the Grapes, and the Fox and the Crow. Our students seemed to have really enjoyed the experience.

What's up doc?
We have changed our house centre into a doctors office. The students are busy taking appointments, checking out and recording the health (including height and weight) of their friends and of course fixing up all those "sick" friends! If you have anything at home that would inspire our young learners, feel free to send in. We have empty vitamin bottles, and bandage boxes.

Remembrance Day
We will be attending the Remembrance Day service this Friday at the school. It is a very solemn, quiet assembly. We will be talking with both classes about the significance of the poppies and the somber nature of the event as well as expectations. Each child will be given a poppy sticker. They are encouraged to bring in a small donation that is contributed to the Legion. If there are children who are members of Sparks or Cubs, they are encouraged to wear their uniform. Families are welcome to attend the service as well.
Colour is everywhere
Today was a beautiful day to enjoy our outdoor environment. We took all the junior and senior kindergartens outdoors for a walk. Although it seems like a dull, dreary time of year, we were focussing on finding a variety of colours. We began by reading "Bear Sees Colours", and then each student was given a rainbow chip (a paint swatch). Their job was to find a colour in nature that best matched their chip. It was surprising how much colour is still out there. Here is what they found:

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign!
The signs, logos and labels in your child's world are called environmental print. Being able to recognize and read these items is an important step as readers develop. It helps to promote success and allows youngsters to see themselves as readers. We have set up long paper on tablesand encouraged the students to create road signs and store signs. It encourages the to attempt their own writing.

Colours, colours everywhere!
We have been discovering a lot about colours this week. We have read a variety of books about colour, and especially colour mixing. We've read a book about a chameleon who wanted a colour of his own. Many students designed their own chameleon with inspiration from the book.
We have done some colour mixing in crafts and created some beautiful suncatchers.
We tried an experiment called "rainbow milk"!
Today, we read a story called Little Blue and Little Yellow. (We'll do it with the blue group tomorrow).
Just like in the story, each child got a blue and a yellow ball of play dough .
