The REAL thing

Yesterday, we had quite a discussion about liquids and solids. Since the students had so much fun in our pretend play ice cream shop, we made real ice cream!
We added cream,...
Sugar,...
And vanilla.
This is the paddle that stirs the mixture up.

We then filled the outer container with ice and salt.
We cranked and cranked...and cranked some more. After an hour, it was still liquid! Leaving it in the freezer overnight made it into the consistency we are familiar with.
Today, we got a chance to sample our hard work. By all reports, they seem to have enjoyed it!
Hopefully I will find a recipe that results in some better success and try again next week with the blue group.
