Home Sweet Nest???

Christopher brought in a birds nest for us to investigate.
We have a variety of bird and insect nests to observe as well as a variety of books.
As a follow up, we went outdoors to build our own nest. We had a discussion about what tools birds would use to build a nest with. By observing the nests, we discovered what material we would need, but further discussion revealed that a bird had only it's beak ( and in some cases it's legs) to build with. To emulate that experience, we were given the task of building a group nest, using only a clothespin as a tool!
Found some old grass.

Building the nest.
We need some soft material too!
We even scraped up some mud and tried to use it to "glue" our nest together.
(We got sidetracked by a chrysalis...I think that is a pretty good distraction, don't you?😀)
What a beautiful day to be in the forest!
Discussing how our nest is like or un-like our own home.
In the end, I think we all agreed, our nest would not have been too comfortable, and was hard to make. Nest building was more difficult than you think!
