Stonecrest's own Dinosaur!

The blue group went on a scavenger hunt this afternoon in the forest.
We found black eyed Susans...
Purple vetch....
Buttercups....
Old tent caterpillar nests...
Moss and lichen (we learned that hummingbirds use these materials, along with spider webs to make their nests!)
And a dinosaur egg!!!!!!
Complete with it's own nest. A Stonecrestasaurus??
Upon further investigation and lots of excitement, we realized that it was a watermelon that had been painted! Our teachers tried to trick us.
A great end to the nature walk, having a couple of slices of watermelon.

Some finds in nature

Here are some things we found on a nature walk today.
"Do I like butter?", Mason and some buttercups.
Jaxson found some raspberry plants.
"Who lives in this hole?"
Gabe found some HUGE leaves.
"Is that a nest?"
This is a milkweed, monarch butterfly caterpillars love this plant!
What a beautiful day for a walk in our woods!

Paint dancing

Today, Ms. Byrne set up a fun painting centre. She painted their feet (how tickly!), put on some music, and let them dance on some mural paper.
Our masterpiece!

"Fruity" friends

Today was the last day our reading buddies came for a visit. To celebrate, we took our books outdoors, and had a special treat of watermelon.

Goodbye Ducklings

Yesterday we said goodbye to our furry, wonderful, peeping (and sometimes stinky) friends-the ducklings! It was a bittersweet goodbye, as they were so much fun to have around, but we knew that they had outgrown their environment and it was time to move on.

Paige even made a bridge for them to travel under!  Later in the afternoon, we had a video sent to us of the ducklings enjoying life in a pond! Goodbye Jumpster, Pineapple, Lemon, Simon, Theodore, Alvin, Cow (these were an assortment of the names chosen for them). Special thank you to Christy for finding their new home!

Art in the Park

Today, we went outside and played with a variety of art activities in a different environment. We had the puppets, dancing sticks, foam blocks, some water play, paint and mural paper, musical instruments, the ducklings, and some sketching material, and a sand castle building competition.
