Flying dragons

Today, we cut and cut out flying dragons. They work in the same principle as a paper airplane.

A lot of time was taken thinking about the dragons colour, often using a pattern in their design.
Then, they began flying them. After a few minutes, they realized they could use the same strategies as when we measured the catapults. They got the measuring tape and went to the hall. There was so much learning as they experimented with different methods to throw their dragon as well as they were reading the numbers in the tape.

Building challenge

Each morning, upon entry, the students have a building challenge to complete. They must build the largest castle possible while working with the others in their group (for some, this is the challenge). When the time is up, we use the students help to measure and record the numbers of the height and then we determine which castle is the highest.

There is a lot of social development happening as well as measuring experience, developing number literacy as they must read 2 and sometimes 3digit numbers and then much thought goes into comparing the different height to see which one is tallest!

Catapults

Wow, we have had so much fun launching marshmallows from our catapults this week. We have been so impressed with the variety of mechanisms and building materials and creativity used so far! It is hard to limit the photos! Here is a glimpse.

Someone thought of every last detail!

Look how far it went...almost 1000 cm!
