A Guest Speaker

On Monday and Tuesday, a special visitor came to our class.  Kareena Butler is OCDSB’s Indigenous Itinerant teacher. She will be collaborating with teachers to infuse First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture, perspectives and history. She is a member of the Indigenous Education Team at the OCDSB. She spoke to the children about animals being our "brothers and sisters". Each child was given the opportunity to identify with what type of animal that they were feeling like. Interesting to hear some of the ideas...there were lots of bunnies, some frogs, some kittens, crocodile and even a sloth. As an introduction, she read Sometimes I Feel Like a Fox.

Kareena then did some exercises with the students where they would stretch like different animals...a turtle, a frog, a moose, an owl, etc.

Then, there was  discussion about Mother Earth-what she does to provide food, water and shelter for us, and how she is sick and what we can do to help her.
