He told us a story about how a young native Canadian girl saw a squirrel nibbling the bark of the maple tree, then noticed “water” coming from the hole. Eventually, they began boiling this water and discovered the sweet substance we know as maple syrup.
He told us that it takes 40 bottles of sap to make one bottle of syrup ( we will do a visual experiment with this next week).
These are an example of spigots used by maple syrup producers.
We got a little taste of the sweet sap.
Yum!
Next, we got to try some award winning maple syrup.
Good to the last drop!
Thanks to the Armstrong family!
