Planting our garden

Despite the damp weather, we went outdoors and cleaned up some of the raised beds.
We pulled out some big dead plants with really big roots!
We then planted some pea seeds. Hopefully we can eat them before the end of the year!

The artists gallery

In preparation for an upcoming famous artist project, we changed our dramatic arts centre into an artist’s gallery!
Here are some of the interactive books we’ve been enjoying.

Incubating eggs

The eggs have now been incubating for a little over a week. It is the perfect opportunity to “candle” the eggs to see if there is anything growing inside. First, we talked about the incubator and how it works.
Every day, we spray the eggs in order to maintain the humidity level.

Then, we feel how warm the egg stays inside the incubator.

We set the egg on top of a flashlight in order to see the insides.
In the above photo, you can see the veins and the air sac at the end. The dark shadow is the developing embryo.
The smaller, darker area is the eyeball!
The senior kindergartens then did a scientific drawing, complete with labels.

Loose parts

A few weeks ago, we sent out a request for various odds and ends. THANK YOU so much! So many of you responded and sent in different materials. “Loose parts” is a movement where young students are encouraged to use their imagination when playing with a variety of materials. They can create structures or games, or fanciful pictures,,,sky’s the limit! We thought we’d share how we’ve used some of the submitted material!

It’s chick time!

We have set the eggs in the incubator and are eagerly counting down 21 days. If all goes well, we expect to see them around May 5th or 6th.

Egg hunt

This week we had a little egg hunt. For the blue class, it was outside as Wednesday was so lovely. With forecasted rain, we planned the hunt indoors for the red class. Students were encouraged to find one egg and then assist a classmate if they located another. Each plastic egg had a magnetic letter in it.
We then opened the eggs, discovered the letter and put them in alphabetical order!
