Simple machines are everywhere!

A company called “Scientists in the School” came to visit a few of our kindergarten classrooms today. They offered two free presentations, so we drew names amongst the classes to see which class would participate. The blue group got lucky! We spent the morning learning all about how simple machines help us.
Our instructor-Scientist Nancy read a book and taught us a new song.

We learned about “wedges”.

We learned about levers!

We learned about gears.

P
We learned about inclined planes.

And we learned about how wheel and axles can help us!

What an amazing, fun filled, educational morning!

Field trip fun

What a great day! We started off by going on a bug scavenger hunt,

Played some sponge and water games,

And some parachute games.
Picnic lunch!

Then, there was some splash pad and play structure fun

Finally, some of us went for a walk.

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we appreciate all your help!

Young engineers

We set up a challenge for our students. They had to build a bridge over a “river” that smurfs had to go on and it was tall enough for a boat to go under. There were some interesting creations!

Step gently out

We have read a story book with beautiful photos of small creatures. It is a cautionary tale for humans to watch for
other inhabitants!
After reading and discussing the story, we went outside and tried to focus on a very small area. Students were asked to watch and draw the small creatures they saw. Some students used a small frame to help them focus.
