Nature’s Treasures

With the nice weather as of late, we have been taking advantage of it by going on regular nature walks. Today, the green group was very interested in collecting the pine cones that have started to fall. We noticed that even the ones on the trees have started to open with the recent warm weather.
Soon, we found a cat tail and discovered that the seeds rapidly dispersed in the wind!
Madame Behnke showed us some seeds that birds and animals eat and disperse the seeds in their scat.
It didn’t take us long to figure out how burrs and burdock spread their seeds!

We went on to discover many more seeds and each time we talked about how they travelled.
We even surprised a fat mouse when she was out gathering seeds for her lunch! Once we returned to the classroom, we read a book that explained how various seeds moved.
