Numbers1-6

With both classes, and in both the English and French classes, we have been working on numeral formation. We have quick poems that go with each number to help youngsters remember how to form the numeral. We have also really been encouraging our students to make the numbers the right way, correcting them if they are backwards. Be sure to ask your child about the rhymes.
We practice formation on chalkboards, in the air, on our friends back, with straws, with string and on paper, of course!

Here are our poems:
1- one is fun (it is an easy one, I do remind them that they need to start at the top)
2-around and back on the railroad track...two, two, two
3-around the tree and around the tree, that's the way to make a three (if they need to, I encourage students to draw two circles that represent the trees)
4- down and over and down some more, that's the way to make a 4
5-fat old five goes down, around and put a hat on top
6-make a loop and then a hoop

In the following weeks, we'll finish with 7,8 and 9.
