Building Challenge-Catapults
Since the red class is learning all about castles, we discussed what sorts of strategies they must have used in order to defend their castles. We looked at a book with various pictures. The senior kindergartens remember making catapults from last year. We watched a video of what it might look like as well as how to make a simple catapult. We also had a sample of toy catapults (we launched a Pom Pom!) We then set out various materials for them to use. Wow! What amazing engineers we had!

Over and Under the Snow
Recently, we’ve read a story called “Over and Under”. It introduces the concept that there are a variety of animals who make their home under the snow.
Then we went on excursions around the school yard looking for evidence of “these kingdoms under the snow”. We tried to investigate each little hole and imagine the creatures that might call the crevices “home”.
Transportation
The Blue group has been enjoying their transportation theme.
Building some boats...do they float?
Drawing some race cars.
Designing our own license plates (I wonder if they’d show up at night?)
Winter Fun
I thought I’d include some photos from our outdoor fun recently.
Practicing some tally marks from sticks we’ve collected.

The Gruffalo
We read the story called The Gruffalo recently. Based on the number of students who could recite many of the words, we could tell it was a favourite in many homes too.
We used puppets from the story to retell it!
We always love to see the students use the props to tell the story again.
