Fish tank anyone?

Last year, I purchased a new fish tank for the classroom. We have since kept a few fish as our classroom pets. These last two weeks we have had a frog and a few minnows in it. Somehow, this week, it was broken! A new tank is quite costly, yet housing and caring for a few fish is a valuable exercise, so I would still like to have an aquarium. If you have one at home, that you are no longer using, and you wouldn't mind giving/lending/selling, please let me know. If you find one at a yard/garage sale that is reasonably priced, I would happily reimburse you. Space is somewhat limited, so it must b about 18 inches long. Thanks for your consideration.

Carp Fair Entries

Recently, we have been busy completing some crafts to submit and compete in the Carp Fair. We are working on necklaces and sunflower pictures in the English class, and a paper bag pumpkin in the French class. Be sure to look for our masterpieces if you are there next weekend!

Ten Black Dots

We continue practising and reinforcing our counting on a daily basis. We read the story called Ten Black Dots.
Then, the students were asked to design a new page for the book using any number of black dots from 1-10. Once they glued on the dots, they had to make a picture including the dots.
Each student came up with an incredibly creative and unique idea! There were chickens, cars, soldiers, aliens, dogs, cats, numerals, etc. here are just a few:

Mouse Count

We are practicing a lot of counting, and playing a bunch of number games. Today, we read a story called:Mouse Count, where a greedy snake captures 10 little mice to eat, but the little mice outsmart the snake and they escape. We read the story with a little snake, the jar and 10 little mice. The students are so captivated by the story, that they quickly requested that they make their own snakes and mice so they could retell the story. The green group read it last week, while the blue group read it today. It kept many hands busy for the afternoon!

First library visit

Today, we went to the library with the blue class for the first time. The blue class will go every Day 1 (which for the next few weeks will be on Tuesdays). Your child may return their book next Tuesday, or any day before that if they prefer! Now that the day has been established. I will make note of it on the monthly calendars, and will try to send a reminder in the Note Totes.

Welcome Back to School!

It was so nice to see all the fresh, smiling faces in the last couple of days. Now, all French immersion senior kindergarten have been to school at least one day, and will soon adjust to our French and English rotation, going back and forth between their two classes. We look forward to having the entire classes being together and everyone getting to know one another. For now, Miss Ashby is the ECE teacher within the English class. She is currently replacing Ms. Byrne. Please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any questions throughout the year. You may contact us through your child's Note Tote, an email, or a response to the blog. We look forward to meeting you in the near future!
